By now, you have probably learned that the best “backup power plan” is NOT to have just one backup power plan.
Time and space permitting, I believe in staying diversified.
There are good options out there for gas, solar, manual, and
all with a vast amount of products in varying degrees of power.
At home, you might invest in a gas or propane powered generator or solar panel/power storage system, (more on those specific options next month) but in your bug-out bag or car, you might keep a collapsible stove, manual power charger or solar strip.

Your backup power options will always be limited by the situation you’re facing.
If you’re going to be bugging out on the move, you need something that’s very portable and lightweight…but you also need it to be fast to access, quick to charge, and powerful.
Relative to its size, it needs to pack a big punch.
There aren’t many options that offer the combination of power, mobility and accessibility of a foldable solar panel charger.
If you get one with a large amount of panels, it can soak up quite a bit of juice in a relatively short amount of time.
You can lay it across your vehicle’s dashboard, outside your shelter, or strapped to your pack while on the move.
And it quickly folds up to the size of a small tablet when you’re not using it — making it easy to store and carry.
It’s so lightweight and mobile, that you can easily carry more than one.
If you’re packing an older charger with 3 or 4 panels, or haven’t had a chance to pick up a good charging strip — take a look at this 5-Panel Solar Charger — it’s a great on-the-move backup power option that you can add to your kit right now.
