Many survivalists underestimate the amount of resources they will need to live off-grid for an extended period. It leads to shortages and makes it difficult to achieve sustainability. So, how do you avoid underestimating your required resources? Here just a few quick suggestions from other survivalists:
DO YOUR RESEARCH
“Before going off-grid, it is important to conduct research on the area where you plan to live. You need to know the climate, terrain, and available resources in the area. This information will help you estimate how much food, water, and fuel you will need to survive”.
CALCULATE USAGE OF RESOURCES
“Once you will need per day, week, and month, you can use estimates to calculate the total amount of each resource you will need for a period of time…3 months…year”.
FACTOR CONTINGENCIES
ALWAYS take the time to plan for (all) contingencies. For example, if you plan to grow your own food, plan for crop failures and have backup food supplies. If you plan to collect rainwater, have a backup plan for water if there is a drought.
MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
Once you are living off-grid, monitoring and managing your resources is key to making things work. “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” Keep a close eye on your inventory to avoid running out of essential resources. Always be ready to make changes to your management strategy as needed.
TEST YOUR PLAN
Only REAL way to test your survival plan is to “live it.” First test your plan by living off-grid for a short period. This will help you identify any areas where you may have underestimated your resource needs.
REVISE & RE-TEST
Based on your test, revise your plan as needed to ensure that you have enough resources to survive off-grid. Test your plan again after making revisions. It may feel like overkill, but testing in a real-world situation is the very best way to ensure your plan is solid.
