I know that a lot of people are dealing with shortages from the panic buying going on out there.
Toilet paper and bottled water are two of the biggest ones people are buying up, and I guess that makes sense, because those are two very basic bodily needs.
So, what do you do if you are absolutely OUT of toilet paper?
You might find the answer kind of… gross, but it’s a real solution.
See, people were dealing with going without having TP for thousands of years.
Now, the ancient formula was to devote your left hand to wiping and your right hand to everything else, to avoid contaminating things… but let’s not go there, okay?
Here’s what you do:
- Get a bucket and some old washcloths.
- Fill the bucket with bleach and water if you have bleach. If you don’t have bleach, leave the bucket empty.
- When you do your business, get the washcloth soaking wet and wipe yourself with it, then rinse the washcloth out REALLY thoroughly and throw it in the bucket.
- Wash your hands with soap and water and then wash them again, just like you do when you accidentally get some on you while wiping.
If you have more than one person in your family, make sure everyone has their own washcloth.
Use the rags or cloths until you feel like they’re pretty much done, then launder them, or throw them away and replace them (your call).
Now, as for bottled water, remember that your tap water is fine for drinking and cooking – but if you’re worried about whether it’s contaminated, or you are collecting rain water and finding water from other sources, you need to FILTER it with a filter straw or some other filter gear, like this one:
Remember, things may get bad before they get better… but they WILL get better.
You just have to get through this until they do.
